LA in Our Rearview Mirror
The Popular Intellectuals read and discuss Janine’s essay “On the 110” and traverse the many freeways of both cars and thought in Los Angeles. The drive takes us to reviewing Lacan’s obsession with cars, all cars’ attendant death drive, and comparing LA and Berlin in their capacity for driving and for having fun. Our muses Joan Didion and Lana del Rey inspire us throughout.

Buying Myself for the First Time
In their first episode ever, the Popular Intellectuals read and discuss Iris’s response to Emily Ratajkowski’s essay in The Cut, “Buying Myself Back.” The Intellectuals embark on a scathing and coruscating review and decide the essay is not up to snuff. The Intellectuals also engage in several entertaining digressions including cyborg feminism and Emily Ratajkowski’s iCarly debut. If you don’t know who Emrata is, don’t worry, nobody really does.
